Seaside history
The trees came before the amusements.
White willows planted around 1800 gave this waterfront park its name. The city designated the park in 1858; its later arcades, picnic grounds and seaside walks made it part of Salem’s summer traditions.

Fort Avenue, Salem Neck
Northeast of downtown on Salem Neck. Shown in a separate inset because it is outside this downtown map.
Established in 1858, Salem Willows combines waterfront parkland with a long tradition of seaside amusements. Arcades, food stands and harbor views give it a nostalgic character.
The public park and its seasonal amusement businesses have different arrangements. Check current park information, weather and any session permissions before choosing an exact spot.
Beach, trees and waterfront paths give the Willows a different feel from downtown. These portraits were made among the trees here. I also photographed a separate beach session at Salem Willows Park Beach.
