18 Washington Square West
Along the southwest edge of Salem Common, south of the Salem Witch Museum and near the east end of Essex Street.
Opened in 1925, the Hawthorne Hotel takes its name from Salem-born author Nathaniel Hawthorne. Its long history includes generations of guests, weddings and celebrations.
The hotel is an operating business. Speak with its staff about a planned session, especially for interiors, entrances or event spaces, and keep guest access clear.
The tall brick facade gives the Common’s edge a strong architectural backdrop. This guide points to the hotel without creating a new photo gallery.
